Proteases – are responsible for the breakdown of proteins and polypeptides (short-chain amino acids that make up proteins). This group includes glutens. Proteases also participate in the digestion of proline dipeptides which occur in casein (milk protein).
Lipase – are enzymes that aid in the breakdown of fats to fatty acids and glycerols. Lipases are essential for digestion of fats.
Amylase – an enzyme found in the mouth and pancreatic fluid which converts starches (typically found in foods like potatoes and rice) and glycogen (a form of glucose that is stored in fatty tissues) into simple sugars, which are more easily used by the body.
Lactase – lactase is an enzyme which is essential in the digestion of whole milk by breaking down lactose, a sugar within milk.
Cellulase – is an enzyme which is used to digest various plants including greens. Without cellulase, humans cannot digest these foods.
Maltase – maltase helps body to digest sugars and starch found in grains and other foods based on grains that we consume daily.
Bromelain – an enzyme typically found in the pineapple, bromelain is beneficial in reducing inflammation, which often is associated with gastro-intestinal issues.
